Design Elements

"Kahu" has been a fantastic home for the owners and their family for over a year.  During this year, time has been spent exploring the south pacific, Hawaii and the pacific northwest.  She has been in bays and coves seen by only handful of people ever!  "Kahu" has  exceeded the families expectation for functionality and comfort.  She is truly a home on the Sea!

"Kahu" is an Ex-New Zealand Navy "Moa" class vessel.  She has been transformed into a World Cruiser by Fitzroy Yachts of New Zealand. 

The Transformation was intended to allow world cruising for family and friends.

Unfortunately financial considerations are forcing her sale.  The hope is another adventurous family or group will take up where the owners are now having to step off.

She is a Steel hull with an New Aluminum Superstructure.  Her design was to allow for cruising the worlds oceans in comfort and safety.  She has achieved this, having traveled over 10,000 miles since August of 2012.

All 6 staterooms are below the main deck. All six staterooms have en-suites with showers.  4 are private staterooms with double berths.  One of the remaining 2 has 4 single berths to starboard and a settee that converts to two singles to port.  The last stateroom is an up/down bunk room with a single above and a twin size berth below.

Kahu has 3 levels for Living and Operations.

Lower Level

  • Forward is the Bunkroom
  • Aft are the Staterooms and Possible Captains Quarters

  • The very aft end provides access to the steering gear and other systems

Main Level

  • One enters the vessel on a large back deck with a canvas sun shade overhead and on the sides
  • The Salon is entered through a sliding door
  • The large open salon blends seamlessly into a dining area
  • The Galley is just forward creating a private galley but one that is easily accessible to the dining area
  • Forward of the Galley is a Pantry with Freezer and Heaps of Storage

  • The forward portion of the main level is a Den.  The den is a great quiet space that converts nicely to a Queen Size berth and a 7th cabin w/ En-Suite and Shower

Stability

An often asked question about this vessel is how she will handle rough seas. Special attention has been paid to this issue.  Additional Ballast was added in an enlarged section of the keel.  Wesmar Gyro Controlled Stabilizers were added during the refit to ensure comfort and safety in rough sea conditions. The 10,000 miles of ocean under her keel prove her to be a capable sturdy vessel.
